Hugh H. Holcomb correspondence, 1838-1850.

Letters from Hugh H. Holcomb, a Granby, Connecticut, lawyer, to Jeremy Holcomb at home in Tariffville, Connecticut, and at Sheffield Academy in Massachusetts. Also letters to Hugh Holcomb, while he was in Washington, DC. These are a combination of business and personal correspondence. Early letters often mention fraternity brothers, marriage, the election in 1848. One letter dated May 3, 1848, mentions Negroes and the anti-slavery movement. Holcomb's correspondents include E. Darwin Hitchcock, Lemuel C. Holcomb (the most prolific writer), his sister Julia Merwin, several cousins, and Edward Van Ness conveying news from Holcomb's father. Seemingly unrelated are a document about laying the cornerstone for a cotton mill, and two letters to Austin Clark.
